Let It Go

Breakup, divorce, or worst, death. These are some of the hardest, most agonizing times of our lives. It is never easy to say goodbye to a person whom you shared your life with, to forget your past and move on with the memories which have kept you standing strong all the while. Yet, life calls upon us to do it over and over again.

People say, past is past. But how can you let go of the past if it’s the one thing you ever needed? You simply can’t because, you hardly won’t. You cannot move on to the new while continuing to cling to the old. For some of us, the past resembles our present and future that makes it so hard for us to just let it go. It defines who we are and conquered a big space in our hearts. In the context of love and romance, there comes a time when one wakes up and realizes that the feeling he had merely faded, and the other one must start learning to let go of the memories that keeps on haunting. We may think the relationship was not meant to be. Perhaps it was too hurtful or it was hindering the personal and spiritual development of one or both partners. In this matter, even though there is still a sensation of charm, passion, the comfort of the familiar, or what we call “spark”, we need to be strong to face the unhealthy bond and convince ourselves to say goodbye to a relationship we thought would last through time. Perhaps we have no problem leaving the person behind, but we continue to harbor animosity. In this case, all we need to do is to let go of the anger and the guilt, and be happy that it was all over even before it had made a bigger destruction in our life. Besides, keeping hatred does not serve us good and it might even create problems in our physical health or emotional well-being. In either situation, we should learn to leave the hurtful memories and carry within our hearts the good and healthy lessons from our past relationship. We need to let all the hard emotions go so that, we can fix and renew ourselves to prepare for a new, healthy relationship that will surely last eternity.

Pain comes and goes. It ruins but, it also creates new horizons. We can let it break us or we may choose to use it and make a better person inside of us. One thing is for sure, we learn from it. Let go, and let God.
